Augustine Hotel, Prague showcases new Lichfield exhibition
28 November 2011 – Rocco Forte’s Augustine Hotel Prague is unveiling a permanent exhibition of more than 80 iconic images by world-famous photographer Lord Patrick Lichfield at its new concept restaurant ‘Lichfield Café, Restaurant & Bar’. The most extensive resident exhibition of its kind outside his former home Shugborough in Staffordshire, UK, the space is a fitting tribute to the life and work of a remarkable man and a very talented photographer.
Walls are lined with black and white photographs, including one of Lichfield’s most famous shots, that of singer Marsha Hunt, nude with giant afro hairstyle for the controversial musical Hair, while a striking image of Blondie’s Deborah Harry is the backdrop to the bar. Alongside a series of his work with 1960s glitterati such as Mick and Bianca Jagger on their wedding day and famous subjects including Michael Caine, Audrey Hepburn and Joan Collins sit photographs taken during his time working with the British Royal Family. A beautiful image of John Piper’s Baptistery Window at Coventry Cathedral is a nod to the Augustine Hotel’s monastic history while several prints offer a rare glimpse into Lord’s Lichfield’s life both at home and at work.
Talking about the new concept, Sir Rocco Forte, said: “I am pleased to be showcasing the work of such a celebrated photographer in our new restaurant. With the Lichfield Café, Restaurant & Bar, we are bringing our heritage as a British brand to Prague. We believe Lord Lichfield’s work sits well alongside the work of local artists, providing an interesting and eclectic blend for our guests.”
