The Augustine Hotel Prague hosts Axel Crieger's high profile 'Avalon' exhibition
Prague, July 20th, 2011: The Augustine Hotel Prague, part of Rocco Forte Hotels, is aiming to bring art closer to the people, and as a first of many exclusive exhibitions, it is hosting a high profile exhibition of the German-American artist, Axel Crieger. The exhibition which goes under the title of ‘Avalon’ opens on July 20th and runs until November 2011.
Large format works will be displayed on the walls of the main reception and nearby corridors of the hotel and will include such well known pieces as “Cinema Paradiso”, “Cuernica” and “That Evening”. Entrance to the exhibition will be free of charge.
Talking about the exhibition, Ken Dittrich, General Manager of the Augustine Hotel, said:
“We are delighted to be hosting such a dramatic art exhibition, and hope that this will be the first of many. The Augustine Hotel is the perfect place for such an exhibition as it offers, in itself, a dramatic backdrop to the artist’s works.”
Born in Munich, Germany, Crieger studied visual communication, working later as a photographer, designer and Art Director, and developing communications strategies for international clients such as BMW, Shell, Levis, Polaroid, Ford, Heineken and Cosmopolitan and ICON. He has lived and worked in New York, Paris, Milan and Los Angeles. In Düsseldorf he met Andy Warhol, publishing his work in “Interview”. He has already organized exhibitions in some of the biggest art cities, such as Berlin, New York, Amsterdam, London, Paris and Moscow, garnering huge critical acclaim, but this will be his first time exhibiting in Prague.
Talking about the exhibition, Axel Crieger says: "I am really excited about having my first ever show in the Golden City. I hope that I will be able to get there to see it and that the feedback from the Czech people, who are so into their art, will be good."
Axel Crieger’s work aims to design new realities and to tell virtual stories that combine a variety of photographs, designs, special effects, drawings, soundtracks and self–written and self–recorded narrations, which he combines with a true sense of style to masterful compositions. His protagonists are mostly historical personalities that often require the artist’s historical knowledge.
Nowadays Crieger creates his art in a virtual space, which he seldom leaves, creating pictures of ideas, dreams, personal choices and public perception.
