    Exhibitions at Wiels

    Between 20th January and 22nd April 2018

WIELS is the center of contemporary art in Brussels, housed in a magnificent building of the former Wielmans-Ceuppens brewery. It defines itself as an "international laboratory for the creation and diffusion of contemporary art". With no permanent, owned collection the WIELS develops, throughout the year, three types of temporary activities: exhibitions, residencies of artists and activities related to education and meditation. Hotel Amigo is proud to include WIELS among its official partners, to offer its clients exhibitions, activities and workshops of renowned contemporary art.

Sophie Podolski « The country where everything is allowed » - 20th January until 1st April 2018 WIELS presents the first exhibition ever dedicated to the Belgian artist Sophie Podolski. Her work is emblematic of a time marked by sexual liberation, antipsychiatry and youth disenchantment. In the brief period between 1968 and 1974 – when she took her own life at the age of 21 – she produced a remarkable body of graphic works, and one book titled “Le pays où tout est permis” [The Country Where Everything Is Permitted], 1972. Saâdane Afif « Paroles » - 1st February until 22nd April 2018 Saâdane Afif creates artworks that enable him to involve other people in his artistic practice. He explores the processes of translation and interpretation that are inherent in any encounter with a work of art, as – according to Marcel Duchamp – “it is the beholder who makes the work of art.”

    EXHIBITIONS AT BOZAR

    9th February - 27th May 2018

Throughout the year, enjoy the many exhibitions and events taking place at BOZAR, the center of the artistic and cultural life of the city. This Palace was built by Victor Horta 1928, icon of Art Nouveau in Brussels.
    Program:
    Fernand Léger « Beauty is everywhere » - 9th February until 3rd June 2018
As a pioneer of uncompromising modernism, Fernand Léger (1881-1955) worked constantly with filmmakers, poets, choreographers, composers and architects. This first Belgian retrospective of the French artist since 1956 illustrates the ground-breaking forms that can result from these interdisciplinary exchanges. You will discover how Léger’s impressive and contrasting work encouraged generations of artists to seek the essence of beauty in a clear style with bright colors.
Spanish Still Life. Velazquez, Goya, Picasso, Miro – 21st February until 27th May 2018
Still life painting: an unambitious exercise in imitation? No longer, since avant-garde artists seized upon the genre to bring radical change to art. For the first time, this retrospective presents 400 years in the evolution of the most magnificent Spanish still lifes: from the first bodegónes of the 17th century and the personal interpretations of Velázquez and Goya to the experiments in form of Picasso, Dalí and Miró and the recent work of contemporary Spanish artists.
