A private tour of the Santa Maria Novella Gardens
Ancient Florentine pharmacy Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella relies heavily on the power of local botanicals for its exquisite range of beauty products. As a result, the Santa Maria Novella Gardens are exceptional. Located opposite the Villa Medicea della Petraia in the Castello hills, the peaceful gardens cover 15,000 square metres and continue the old tradition passed down from the Dominican monks, who tended to the hortus conclusus, an enclosed garden, around their monastery from the thirteenth century onwards.
Guests at Hotel Savoy can enjoy an exclusive private tour of the gardens to find out more about how the herbs, plants and flowers grown here are used in Santa Maria Novella’s cosmetics. A truly multisensory experience, you’ll wander along the flower beds, herb gardens, olive groves and fruit trees, learning about the history and heritage of the area. Planted with typical Tuscan plants that are used by the pharmacy, such as lavender, rosemary and iris, there’s also a vegetable garden where visitors can sample fresh seasonal produce throughout the year.
Complimentary tours are available for all suite guests from May to September, upon request (48 hours in advance). For information and bookings, please call +39 055 2735836 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
