HOTEL SAVOY AND THE FRANCO ZEFFIRELLI FOUNDATION

PRESENT THE “ZEFFIRELLI’S DIVAS” EXHIBITION

Fanny Ardant is the Godmother of the exhibition, which pays tribute to the unforgettable stars of Cinema, Theatre and Opera who graced the artistic career of the great Florentine Director

Hotel Savoy, a Rocco Forte Hotel in Florence, and the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation (International Centre of Performing Arts) have joined forces to present the “Zeffirelli’s Divas” exhibition, which will be on display at Hotel Savoy.

Through a selection of black and white photographs, the “Zeffirelli’s Divas” exhibit honours the most renowned celebrities that the great Maestro worked with throughout his illustrious career in Cinema, Theatre and Opera between 1958 and 2009: Maria Callas, Fanny Ardant, Cher, Olivia Hussey, Brooke Shields, Valentina Cortese, Faye Dunaway, Carla Fracci, Judy Dench, Maggie Smith, Anne Bancroft, Anna Magnani, Claudia Cardinale, Elizabeth Taylor, Glenn Close, Joan Plowright, Marisa Allasio, Monica Bellucci, Katia Ricciarelli, Mariangela Melato, Monica Vitti and Stefania Sandrelli.

The exhibition begins in the hotel Lobby, continuing through the Salotto Lounge, Irene Restaurant & Bar, and culminating in the Duomo Presidential Suite. It pays special tribute to acclaimed star Maria Callas, Franco Zeffirelli’s greatest artistic love. The legendary Opera singer is depicted in a photograph with the director, as well as on the set of “La Traviata” (1958) and “Tosca” (1964). Esteemed actress Fanny Ardant is the ‘Godmother’ of the exhibition and will open the show as Hotel Savoy’s Guest of Honour. The renowned French actress was the protagonist of the Maestro’s latest feature film, “Callas Forever” (2002), which recounts the last three months of the life of the most extraordinary opera singer of all time.“Zeffirelli’s Divas” is open to all.

"We are presenting a beautiful selection of strong protagonists who embody the great temperament that the Maestro always sought for his characters - says Pippo Corsi Zeffirelli, President of the Foundation -. “We are delighted with this amazing initiative at Hotel Savoy. The fact that the exhibition is on display in Piazza della Repubblica, the Square where my father was born and raised, is a special coincidence that gives this project even more value”.

The exhibition acts as a gateway to discover the incredible oeuvre of the Zeffirelli Collection, with its Museum, Archive and Franco Zeffirelli’s personal Library. The International Centre of Performing Arts in Piazza San Firenze, located in the charming 17th century Palace, hosts over 250 works by the Italian director, including set designs, drawings and costume sketches. It unites the entire artistic and cultural legacy of the Director’s 70-year career, sharing it with the city of Florence and its visitors.
