Serving up a mixture of sunny skies, a temperate climate and breathtaking scenery combined with a plethora of lifestyle delights, Sicily has all the ingredients for a relaxing golf break this autumn.

The largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily’s nearby location to Africa means that it basks in sunshine nearly all-year round. Being situated so close to the African coastline presented a few problems in the past but all that is now a distant memory, with its long history of invasions and ancient civilisations all part of what makes Sicily so fascinating.

Whether it be the history, architecture and culture; the legendary gastronomy and wines or simply taking the chance to wander around the plethora of fishing villages and hilltop towns with picture-postcard Baroque cathedrals, even the most fussy traveller will struggle not to find something to marvel at.

After the sizzling heatwave of the summer, golfers will welcome the chance to play in temperatures in the mid-seventies over the coming month, and Verdura Resort has everything needed for players eager to combine outstanding golf with the chance to enjoy the finer things in life.

One of the most eagerly anticipated golf redesign projects in Europe, Verdura Resort’s new-look East Course has got players talking all over the world, and Kyle Phillips’ upgraded layout is just part of the venue’s eye-catching Golf Inclusive stay-and-play breaks.

The East Course isn’t the only world-class course that the resort has to offer, with the layout complemented by the improved West Course and nine-hole Executive Course, also designed by Phillips.

But unlike many other popular golfing destinations at this time of year, overcrowded fairways and five-hour-plus rounds will not be a problem with Verdura’s array of golfing options – including a double-ended driving range – meaning there’s more than enough room for everyone.

And when it’s time to put the clubs to one side and experience some of the other pleasures that life has to offer, Verdura Resort has an abundance of activities suited to doing just that if you’re looking for a place to relax in five-star comfort.

Guests can sample an authentic taste of traditional Sicily with an array of dishes at one of the resort’s four restaurants and five bars – with fresh, organic produce sourced straight from Verdura’s own garden. In addition, visitors can enjoy an array of cultural and culinary experiences including Sicilian cooking lessons, a visit to the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento or a day trip to Palermo, while there’s plenty to keep the younger members of the family entertained with dedicated kids and teen clubs providing a variety of fun-packed programmes over the October half-term holidays.
