Made in Italy

Twenty-five years ago, Sir Rocco Forte and his sister Olga Polizzi joined forces to change the way we see and experience modern luxury. Born into a family that has had hospitality and entrepreneurship at its heart for generations, they had a vision for a new paradigm of hospitality: sophisticated, design-driven hotels, characterised by a unique marriage of British polish and the warmth of a Continental flair.

The family history begins  begins in 1911, the year Sir Rocco and Olga’s grandfather made the journey from Monforte, a hamlet in the South of Italy, to just outside Fife in Scotland. Not long after, he founded a café called The Savoy, the first Forte hospitality business. In 2022, a quarter-century on from when Sir Rocco and Olga Polizzi joined forces, the Fortes are looking at a bright—and busy—future. The future honours the past, and the family traditions carry on.

Roma & Firenze

From the Eternal City to the Cradle of the Renaissance, no two cities encapsulate the history, creativity and personality of Italy more than Rome and Florence. Rome: the centre of an empire, capital of politics and culture – palazzos, piazzas and the dolce vita. Hotels de Russie and de la Ville.Florence: the jewel of Tuscany, Europe’s great art city – ancient frescoes and sculptures, enchanting architecture and opera. Hotel Savoy. Together, an entrée into Italy’s beating heart and brilliant mind.

A Journey South

Turning towards Italy’s sun-drenched south, to our seafront retreats and countryside escapes. To rolling hills and olive groves, endless stretches of sand and sweeping sea views. To a sweet, slower pace of life.

First to Italy’s Adriatic Coast and Puglia – home to ancient farmland, whitewashed villages and Masseria Torre Maizza, our 16th-century farmhouse turned intimate resort. A land of orange and lemon trees, white-sand seasides and Mediterranean sunsets. Distinct Apulian flavours and the freshest local ingredients. Peace, space and extraordinary food.

The Sicilian Coast

Further south to Sicily, the meeting place of myriad cultures: Phoenician to Norman, Arab to Byzantine. An island of natural and manmade marvels: salt pans, holms, gorges and volcanoes; ancient Greek temples, amphitheatres and Roman mosaics. Of bustling cities: markets, architecture and the arts. And of Verdura Resort, its hundreds of hectares of coastline, countryside, spa and golf, and Villa Igiea, our art nouveau palazzo between Palermo, Mount Pellegrino and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
