TOWN AND COUNTRY LITERARY ESCAPE AT BROWN’S, ENDSLEIGH AND TRESANTON
Brown’s, Endsleigh and Tresanton Hotels are pleased to introduce the ‘Town and Country Literary Escape’, the ultimate break for lovers of all things literary. Olga Polizzi, designer of these three unique hotels, invites guests to explore England and visit Mayfair, Devon and Cornwall, each area brimming with cultural diversions.
Begin with a two night stay at Rocco Forte’s Brown’s Hotel in the heart of Mayfair. Past guests of this iconic London hotel include Rudyard Kipling, who wrote ‘The Jungle Book’ whilst staying at Brown’s and Agatha Christie, who based her novel ‘At Bertram’s Hotel’ on Brown’s. Beautiful copies of both books will be in the room on arrival. Whilst in Mayfair, be sure to visit Peter Harrington Rare Books on Dover Street, purveyors of the finest rare books from first editions to antiquarian volumes. A short walk from the hotel guests can find The London Library, one of the UK’s leading literary institutions giving visitors the chance to lose themselves amongst the impressive collection.
From Mayfair, guests are invited to Hotel Endsleigh, near the pretty town of Tavistock in Devon, for two magical nights staying in this historic house set in 108 acres of stunning gardens designed by Humphry Repton in 1814. Devon is the setting for many stories, including the chilling classic, ‘The Hound of The Baskervilles’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Agatha Christie, who had her beloved house, Greenway, in Devon, wrote of the county in her novel ‘And then there were none’, saying “Devon is so beautiful, those hills and red cliffs”. Both novels will be in the room for guests of this special escape.
From Devon, off to Cornwall, via Jamaica Inn, to Olga Polizzi’s waterside bolthole for a further two nights. Hotel Tresanton is in the picturesque fishing village of St. Mawes, the perfect base from which to explore the Cornish countryside, from Fowey, home town of Daphne du Maurier, to Lamorna Cove which is the setting of ‘The Shell Seekers’ by Rosamunde Pilcher. St. Ives, which is a hotbed of art galleries including the Tate and the renowned Barbara Hepworth Museum, is also nearby. ‘Rebecca’ by Daphne du Maurier and ‘The Shell Seekers’ by Rosamunde Pilcher will be in the room on arrival.
Guests will return home relaxed after this six night break in three very different settings, having discovered extraordinarily beautiful areas of England boasting great literary heritage.
