HEROES FOR ONE DAY: RETRACING THE STEPS OF DAVID BOWIE IN BERLIN
Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome is offering exclusive walks and tours through Germany’s capital to accompany a spectacular David Bowie exhibition.
Berlin, April 2014 – “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring” (David Bowie). In tune with this theme, guests of the Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome can retrace David Bowie’s footsteps around Berlin – and it is certain to be anything but boring. The Hotel de Rome consistently offers its guests unique cultural experiences. To mark the David Bowie retrospective that will run from 20 May to 10 August in the Martin-Gropius- Bau, the luxury five-star Berlin hotel is teaming up with Berlin Musictours to bring guests on a series of walks and tours retracing the footsteps of one of Britain’s most talented musicians. The Berlin years from 1976 to 1978 were some of Bowie’s most productive. His Berlin trilogy of the albums Low (1977), Heroes (1977) and Lodger (1979) were inspired by the city and were partly recorded at the Hansa Studios, not far from Potsdamer Platz. The Berlin Rocco Forte Hotel is the perfect point from which to explore David Bowie’s Berlin. It is just a 15-minute walk from the Martin-Gropius-Bau, where guests can see the fascinating exhibition curated by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. The David Bowie retrospective delivers a wide-ranging audio-visual exhibition experience using state-of-theart multimedia technology. The exhibition’s curators were given access to the private David Bowie archive for the first time and selected around 300 artefacts that will now go on display in Berlin.
