HOTEL SAVOY IN FLORENCE BRINGS PINOCCHIO TO LIFE

Florence, March 2013 – Rocco Forte’s Hotel Savoy knows the secret to a successful family holiday is engaging everyone in the destination, and the wide appeal of Florence is incontestable. While for teens there is shopping and buzzing café scene and for adults superlative wine, dining and romance, parents the world over, however, will attest that young children are tricky to entertain, even if the destination in question is the birthplace of Pinocchio, that classic of children’s literature.

Capturing the imagination of little people visiting the city, Hotel Savoy is bringing to life with the Pinocchio Experience this abstract story of the lovable, naughty little puppet who walks and talks and whose nose grows longer and longer every time he tells a lie.

During a three-hour workshop taught by Barbara Bersellini, a  renowned restorer and member of The Carlo Lorenzino Pinocchio’s Cultural Association, each child will choose a piece of wood to personalise. Decorating their chosen object using arts and crafts skills typical of the artisan culture of Florence, children can draw inspiration from the story of Pinocchio and the city of Florence itself.

The characters in Pinocchio are vivid and memorable. Little tykes might choose to draw ‘Il grillo parlante’ (Jiminy Cricket) on a pencil box while girls may prefer to bring the Blue Fairy to life on a jewellery box, or whittle a statue of the frisky feline, Figaro. After the workshop Barbara will finish the object to a professional standard using safe and non-toxic materials and they will be delivered to the children’s bedroom the following day to take home as a memento.

For families wishing to further explore the city, the Pinocchio Cultural Association has also created a tour of Florentine artisans producing Pinocchio-themed products such as jewellery at Penko’s and la Bottega delgi Zecchini di Pinocchio, wooden toys at La Bottega di Mastro Geppetto or the indulgent cakes at Pasticceria Sieni.

Following a day of exploring, children can continue their Pinocchio-inspired trip at Hotel Savoy and take to their beds with the book while parents can relax with at L’Incontro Bar and enjoy a  ‘Geppetto’ or a Grillo Parlante cocktail.

The Pinocchio Experience at Hotel Savoy includes a Pinocchio book and personalised cotton smock to be worn during the workshop. Two rooms (one for two adults, one for two children including breakfast) with 50 percent off the children’s room and start from €485 plus 10 percent VAT. Children under the age of three eat free, children aged 4 to 12 eat and drink at half price. The decoration workshop with Barbara Bersellino costs €260 for one child, €280 for two, €360 for 3, €380 for 4.* To book or for more information, visit www.roccofortehotels.com
