FROM THE GARDEN TO THE TABLE: “VERDURA SOCIETÀ AGRICOLA”
Verdura Resortannounces the new “Verdura Società Agricola” (Verdura Organic Farm), sharing our home grown produce with our guests to experience a truly organic and sustainable break.
Within the 230 hectare Verdura Estate there are 2.000 olive trees, 3.000 orange trees, 250 almond trees, 150 prickly pear cacti, 120 pomegranate trees and 50 lemon trees. The “garden” extends over 2,600 square meters of land, where aromatic herbs and organic vegetables are grown, including artichokes, eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, melons, red pepper, beans, rosemary, sage, mint and wild fennel.
“Verdura Società Agricola” products are handpicked everyday and used by the Executive Chef to prepare the dishes offered in the resorts 4 restaurants, as well as the cocktails at Granita Bar.
This year “Verdura Società Agricola” has produced its first extra virgin olive oil, a blend of traditional Sicilian olive varieties (Cerasuola, Biancolilla and Nocellare). The olives are handpicked and cold pressed within a few hours from harvesting, in order to retain all their organoleptic properties and ensure the very best taste. Verdura Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a deep bright green color, with a harmonious array of characteristic aromas, including orange blossoms, artichoke, mint and basil.
This olive oil is to be found in all of the resort’s restaurants, and it is also a treasured element of treatments at Verdura SPA. Thanks to its nourishing and softening properties, it is combined with aromatic herbs and used for natural treatments and massages.
To celebrate the new “Verdura Società Agricola” our celebrity Chef Fulvio Pierangelini has created a special recipe which is featured in Zagara’s menu, accentuating the ingredients that most represent the island of Sicily: “Red prawn salad and orange sauce with Verdura extra virgin olive oil”. The resort proposes fun cooking classes where the Executive Chef Paolo Platini will reveal the secrets to this and other Sicilian recipes using hand-picked ingredients from Verdura’s vegetable garden and olive and orange trees. Price starting from €100 per person.
