VERDURA RESORT NETS GLOBAL GOLF AWARD HAT-TRICK
Sicily’s exclusive Verdura Resort is celebrating a memorable hat-trick after receiving top international honour from Golf Digest, the world’s biggest golf media title, for the third year running.
Host of the 2017 Rocco Forte Open – Verdura and described by winner Álvaro Quirós as “paradise”, the top golf and lifestyle destination has enjoyed widespread international acclaim over the last 12 months and was again selected by the magazine as a recipient of an ‘Editors’ Choice Award’ for the best resorts in Italy.
Unveiled in the May issue of Golf Digest, the list features an elite collection of top names from the global golf industry and was compiled after receiving feedback from a combination of the magazine’s group of international affiliate titles and 1,000-plus golf-course raters.
Max Adler, editorial director for Golf Digest, said: “The ‘Golf Digest Editors’ Choice Awards’ for resorts are based on consultations with our 29 international affiliates and input from our panel of more than 1,200 course raters. Unlike our course rankings, this reward takes a wider view to consider the merits of all aspects of the resort property.”
Opened in 2009, Verdura Resort – a Rocco Forte hotel – has established itself over the last decade among Europe’s elite golf resorts, with European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjørn confirming himself as one of the resort’s many fans when he said: “What a beautiful place and what a place to play golf …” after playing in the inaugural Rocco Forte Open last year.
A member of the exclusive European Tour Properties network, the resort’s extensive golf facilities include two outstanding 18-hole championship golf courses, and it will host European Tour action for the third time this spring when the 2018 Rocco Forte Sicilian Open takes place from May 10-13.
Marco Truffelli, general manager at Verdura Resort, said: “It’s been a fantastic year for Verdura Resort and to win this global award for the third consecutive year is further confirmation of the high regard that the resort is held in across Europe and worldwide.
“This accolade is recognition for the all the hard work that has been put in to make the resort a leader in the golf and lifestyle luxury market, and we’re looking forward to having the opportunity to showcase our facilities again when the European Tour returns in May.
