EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC OF MAYFAIR
London at Christmas is simply spectacular. From carol services to Christmas lights, there’s all manner of merriment to enjoy in the British capital, but nowhere quite as magical as Mayfair.
Walk along Mayfair’s renowned shopping streets and you’ll find unrivalled fashion, jewellery, and homeware right on our doorstep, from the luxury labels on Old and New Bond Street, to the exceptional, curated offerings in department stores, Selfridges and Liberty London, not to mention the nearby beautiful, and ever so historical, Burlington Arcade and Royal Arcade.
Whether you’re shopping for stocking fillers or treating yourself to a seasonal specialty, you’re bound to be tempted in Mayfair.
Immerse yourself in the spirit of the season at the ultimate destination for sumptuous food and wine, Fortnum & Mason. Before you leave, peruse the lauded Food Hall; its extravagant hampers make ideal gifts.
Another Royal Warrant holder, Paxton & Whitfield has been Britain’s leading cheesemonger for over 200 years. With all manner of artisanal cheese on offer, it’s the perfect place to shop for your festive cheeseboard, the zenith of any Christmas table.
Those looking for a few additions to their seasonal cellar, meanwhile, will be well-served with a trip to Berry Bros. & Rudd. Founded in 1698, this award-winning fine wine and spirits merchant has over 5,000 bottles on offer and a programme of seasonal tastings to add a little extra sparkle to your Christmas.
Speaking of sparkle: Christmas lights across the city illuminate London’s wintertime darkness and spread the seasonal cheer from November onwards. The lights on Oxford Street and Regent Street are particularly spectacular, and at night these thoroughfares become pedestrian-only to allow you to take it all in. As an added bonus, shops stay open late to boost the merriment.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
The lights will also be twinkling over Hyde Park for its annual Winter Wonderland (21st November 2019 - 5th January 2020), a spectacular by name and by nature. Sip hot mulled wine as you explore the abundance of brightly-lit cheer. There are thrilling rides, traditional Christmas market stalls, the Bavarian village for Bratwurst, steins, and live music, and even Santa Claus himself, who takes up residence in Santa Land.
Carols at Apsley House
Once known as ‘Number 1 London’, Apsley House – a stunning Georgian building on the corner of Hyde Park – was home to the first Duke of Wellington. Today, you can visit to explore the elegant interiors and, this festive season, enjoy traditional carols sung by the Royal Holloway University Chapel Choir. Performed in the opulent Waterloo Gallery, which was created to host the King and other select guests at the Duke’s decadent annual Waterloo Banquet, this is a carol service unlike any other.
