MAISON PARISIENNE PRESENTS THE AVENUE OF DESIGN AND LORD BYRON’S CABINET OF WONDERS AT BROWN’S HOTEL
A supporter of design, innovation and creation, Brown’s Hotel is inviting gallery Maison Parisienne to exhibit its exceptional collection throughout the hotel’s public spaces from October 1st to 7th, 2018. This art and design event will take place during a period rich in artistic manifestations, at a time when London celebrates contemporary art and design with fairs and exhibitions across the city, including Frieze and the Pavillon of Design in Berkeley Square, near Dover Street on which one of the hotel’s entrances resides. Leading figure recognized for her efforts to promote French contemporary furniture and objects, Florence Guillier-Bernard will present a special show of French and European artists and master craftsmen, an exhibition of rare pieces and limited editions showcasing style, luxury and excellence. Guests are invited to discover an “Avenue of Design” leading them through the hotel to the piece de résistance, “Lord Byron’s Cabinet of Wonders”.
Brown’s Hotel, a Hotel with Creation in its Soul
Several writers, artisans, artists and thought-leaders have made Brown’s Hotel’s their home from home since it opened in 1837, and it continues to establish close ties with the creative world. Since being founded by Lord Byron’s butler, Brown’s has been a creative haven and source of inspiration to the likes of Rudyard Kipling, Agatha Christie, Oscar Wilde and Karl Lagerfeld. The design of the hotel itself is very much a part of its identity with British art, wallpapers and antiques carefully curated by Director of Design Olga Polizzi to give the hotel its inimitable style; traditional elegance offset by contemporary flair.
Lord Byron’s Cabinet of Curiosities, an Event Dedicated to Exquisite Creation.
Over the course of this collaboration, Brown’s Hotel will be showcasing the creations of designers and artists who are making an impact with their innovation and skill, inspiring visitors to marvel at the beauty of the pieces displayed.
Gallery Maison Parisienne will welcome visitors at the Brown’s entrance with exceptional pieces guiding them to the Reception. The route will culminate in the Lord Byron room where a collection of curiosities will showcase the most curious and glorious European and French craft and design pieces.
The cabinet will be furnished with pieces of furniture by Pierre Renart, whose work combines traditional woodwork skills with new technologies. His magnificent desk Wave offers a contemporary interpretation of Lord Byron’s furniture. His pieces will be accompanied by astonishing textile sculpture by Simone Pheulpin. She creates organic worlds of folded cotton in which spectators can wander and wonder. Geraldine Gonzalez’s glass sculptures will add to the eccentricity of the cabinet as her luminous curiosities will take visitors to another realm of fantasies. Several marvelous pieces created by other French artists will be presented for this remarkable exhibition.
