Florence, 12th July 2017 - Hotel Savoy, a Rocco Forte Hotel in Florence, is pleased to announce its cultural partnership with the Advancing Women Artists Foundation (AWA). The American non-profit organisation is committed to researching, restoring and exhibiting precious artworks created by women artists over the last five centuries, many of which now form part of Florence's best museum collections.

To celebrate and support AWA’s mission, Hotel Savoy is proud to present the ‘Women and the Renaissance’ tour, an experience available exclusively to guests of the hotel, giving them the chance to discover Florence's Golden Age as they have never seen it before.

The extravagant Pitti Palace, home to Florence’s ruling families from the age of the Medici, provides the intriguing backdrop to the world of Renaissance women and their roles as leaders, artists, entrepreneurs and idealised symbols of virtue and power. Guests will have the chance to explore some of the most fascinating works of art in the magnificent Palace from the art of Artemisia Gentileschi, one of the most accomplished women painters in history, to the beauty of Simonetta Vespucci, Botticelli's muse, to the work of Lavinia Fontana, the era's most prolific professional female painter.

Guests will witness how women deeply inspired many facets of the Renaissance, through religion, fashion and art. Works by masters like Michelangelo and Raffaello, demonstrate women’s impact by honouring the female form, leading the way on the journey through the ‘Feminine Universe’ of the Renaissance. Pitti's extravagant Costume Gallery reveals the most loved fashion trends and outfits of some of Tuscany's most iconic women. In the palace's northern wing, 'The Medici Grand Dukes' Treasures – a breathtaking menagerie of amber, ivory, silver and ceramic – give guests a glimpse of the lifestyle of noble ladies who frequented Pitti’s courts.

By choosing the ‘Women and the Renaissance’ experience, guests of Hotel Savoy are participating in a decade-long quest to restore and promote art by women in Tuscany, as its proceeds support AWA’s conservation efforts. Each tour, led by specialised guides, includes a signed copy of Jane Fortune's book Invisible Women: Forgotten Artists of Florence, the book that inspired the Emmy-winning PBS documentary of the same name.
