PUGLIA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACHES

Rocco Forte Hotels

The unspoilt Puglian coastline, bordering both the Adriatic and Ionian seas, is the perfect playground for families. There are a wealth of natural and manmade wonders to discover from caves, coves, cliffs and coral to ruins, nature reserves and scenic restaurants, all within easy reach of Masseria Torre Maizza. These are the beaches we love in Puglia.

Lama Monachile, Polignano a Mare

One of Puglia’s most-photographed coves, the narrow sandy beach of Lama Monachile sits between steep cliffs, upon which the walled city of Polignano a Mare perches. Spanned at the inland end by an ancient Roman bridge, it’s a picturesque place to lay down a towel and wade out to snorkel in crystal-clear water. Look out for the annual summer cliff-diving championships for a high-adrenaline day out.

Torre Guaceto

Just north of Brindisi, this protected marine nature reserve is truly breath-taking. Its sheer size means there’s always a stretch to call your own stretched out on the powdery sand. Soak up some sun in this wild, rugged setting, keeping an eye out for rare birds and fish, rent a snorkel to get a closer look at the coral or take bicycles and cycle to the so-called spiaggia delle conchiglie to sift through its shells.

Torre Dell’Orso, Melendugno

Set in the Salento region, this stretch of pristine sand’s most striking feature is its two naturally-formed rock stacks, named the ‘two sisters’ for a tragic local legend. With white sand for sunbathing, clear water fed into by the currents of the Otranto Channel and an aromatic pine grove behind the dunes providing ample shade, it’s a scenic destination for a day trip by car or boat. The partially-demolished 16th century stone Torre dell’Orso, for which the bay is named, is worth a visit, too.

Lido Bambù

Last but not least, our exclusive beach club is set in Savelletri and is both beautiful and ideal for families. This stretch of fine, white sand looks out over the azure Adriatic, and is home to a terrace with private gazebos, a restaurant serving freshly-caught fish and a lounge area with massage pavilions. Paddle or swim in the sparkling sea, relax in the sun (or shade), enjoy lunch as a family or indulge in some high-energy activities, including beach volleyball, football and kitesurfing.
