Bright Shadows - Scottish Art in the 1920s
City Art Centre

Bright Shadows: Scottish Art in the 1920s is timed to mark 100 years since the dawn of the ‘Roaring Twenties’. The exhibition showcases over 35 artworks selected from the City Art Centre’s own collection of fine art, including oil paintings, watercolours, drawings, etchings and sculptures. Featured artists include D.Y. Cameron, Stanley Cursiter, Dorothy Johnstone, William McCance, Eric Robertson and William Wilson, as well as the Scottish Colourists S.J. Peploe and J.D. Fergusson.

Film special effects superstar Ray Harryhausen elevated stop motion animation to an art. His innovative and inspiring films, from the 1950s onwards, changed the face of modern movie making forever. For the first time, highlights chosen from the whole of Ray’s collection will be showcased, which will be the largest and widest-ranging exhibition of his work ever seen, with newly restored and previously unseen material from his incredible archive.

Penguins and Pancakes

In small groups to allow for social distancing and family ‘bubbles’, a guide will lead the way to the penguin enclosure where you’ll learn amazing facts about the species and have the chance to see them up close before the gates open to the public.
Leaving the penguins to enjoy their breakfast, you’ll then head over to the Mansion House to have yours and take part in a craft activity. You’ll also make your own cuddly toy to explore the Zoo with for the rest of the day!
Pick Your Own

Escape the city and prepare for spooky season by picking your own pumpkins at Craigie’s Farm, just a stone’s throw from Edinburgh. From Early September to late October, you can also pick fresh apples straight from the orchard, featuring varieties you won’t find in any supermarket. After picking your own pumpkins or apples, why not enjoy lunch or a sweet treat from the on-site café while the kids run wild in the play area?

With Halloween just around the corner, Edinburgh International Film Festival and Unique Events have announced a special Halloween programme for their outdoor Drive-In Movies at Edinburgh Airport series.
The series promises to be a fun event for the entire family with plenty of entertainment prior to each screening and a packed programme of classic scary movies featuring Ghostbusters, The Lost Boys, Jaws, Halloween and much more.
