Exploring the island’s history with Philip Kamel

Philip Kamel, originally from Cairo, Egypt, has called Italy home for 34 years. With a deep passion for Palermo, he inspires guests with the city's vibrant history and culture.

“From the moment I stepped foot in Palermo, I fell in love with the stunning Sicilian landscapes, the Mediterranean Sea, and, most importantly, the people and their values”

Philip's must-see:

Artistic discoveries

For art-lovers, or those who are simply curious about the island’s history, the Sicilian Regional Gallery of Palazzo Abatellis is an absolute must-see.

This overlooked gem houses two of the most important paintings: the Virgin Annunciate by Antonello da Messina, a serene depiction of Mary that captures the soul, and The Triumph of Death by Antonio Crescenzio, a haunting fresco that reflects life's fleeting nature. Seeing these masterpieces in person is a truly moving experience.

Most astonishing church of Palermo

An exclusive slice of Palermo

At Palermo Cathedral, you can feel the island’s history breathing through its stone walls. Journey back in time as you wander through royal tombs that hold the stories of emperors and kings, including the magnificent Imperial Crown found in the tomb of Constance of Aragon. When you’re ready for some fresh air, climb to the rooftop where you’ll be treated to some of the best panoramic views of our city.

We also offer our guests an exclusive guided tour through the beautiful Teatro Massimo, Europe’s third-largest opera house. Explore the theatre’s stunning auditorium and halls, and take a behind-the-scenes look at the magic of opera production. While you’re visiting, make sure to book tickets for a show - they are absolutely incredible and not to be missed!

Twilight tours in the valley

As the day comes to a close, make your way to the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento for a truly unforgettable experience. This incredible archaeological site transports you to the grandeur of classical Greek civilization with its towering temples and majestic ruins. In the summer, the site stays open late for evening tours, allowing you to see the temples beautifully illuminated against the evening sky. It’s a unique experience that our guests always remember long after their visit.
