Palazzo Barberini

Step behind the iconic façade of the 17th century Palazzo Barberini for an enthralling tour of art and architecture. Facing Bernini’s Triton fountain on its eponymous square, this former aristocratic villa was designed by master architects and artisans. Its ornate exterior, frescoed ceilings and iconic, spiralling Borromini staircase rendered it a must-see on the Grand Tours of the 1800s; it has lost none of its grandeur since. Today it houses the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica – admire astonishing works of art from Italian Masters including Raphael, Caravaggio and Tintoretto on the first floor; and on the second, breath-taking works 18th century works.
