Created by Giuseppe Valadier at the beginning of the 19th century, our Secret Garden is a “work of art, cultural treasure, architectural and environmental resource” which is what makes it a unique wonder.
Among the illustrious guests who strolled in the Hotel de Russie’s marvelous garden, it was Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau who had the most memorable experience, when visiting in 1917. “We are living in paradise on earth”, wrote Cocteau in a letter to his mother, “The hotel is in a garden that climbs up and looks over Rome. I pick oranges from my window and the sun warms the furniture.”
