A bijou town in the province of Palermo, Corleone is rich in monuments and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Ascend to the top of Castello Soprano to explore the historic remains of a Saracen castle, and enjoy its particularly special panoramas. From there, pass through Burgio, a charming Sicilian village that’s steeped in history and is home to the island’s only bell foundry, established in the 1500s. Venture as far as the stunning hilltop village of Chiusa Sclafani, whose many magnificent churches are a memorable backdrop to your drive.
Discover the town of Marsala, known the world over for its fortified wine of the same name. Founded centuries ago, this coastal town’s extraordinary history is echoed in its architecture, which blends Baroque elements with Arabian and Spanish decorative flourishes. Glide along its photogenic seafront, flanked by endless rows of palm trees, and gaze out across the famous Stagnone reserve, which includes the Phoenician island of Mothia. Historic highlights not to miss en route are the impressive Doric temple and the theatre of Segesta, both steeped in Ancient Greek history
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998, the archaeological site of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento is among the most celebrated attractions on the island. Home to seven Ancient Greek temples, as well as gardens, statues and relics, it’s one of the world’s most important heritage sites. Once you’ve soaked up its unique ambience, drive on to explore the hilltop city of Agrigento, formerly a Greek colony. It’s a colourful mélange of ancient history and contemporary Sicilian culture.
