An Eternal Icon, Reimagined: 25 Years of Hotel de Russie

,
For a quarter of a century, Hotel de Russie has been a Roman icon - discreetly glamorous, instantly recognisable, and deeply connected to its setting between the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo.

Now, as it marks 25 years, a new chapter begins. With a €30 million renovation complete, led by the creative vision of Lady Olga Polizzi, the hotel steps forward with reimagined spaces that honour the past while looking firmly to the future.

At the heart of the transformation is the De Russie Spa. Inspired by the tranquillity of the hotel’s Secret Garden, it pairs soft lighting and organic textures with muted tones. Five treatment rooms, including two for couples, offer a curated selection of therapies designed to reconnect body and mind. Guests can retreat to the saltwater pool with hydromassage jets, or unwind in the sauna and steam room.

New to the wellness offering is the Forte Vita Bar, a dedicated beauty space offering express treatments and expert care. Here, cutting- edge technology meets sensory experience - from oxygen facials, LED, microcurrent and laser therapies, to hair and nail treatments.

Beyond the spa, every guest room and suite has been carefully refreshed. The Nijinsky Suite stands out as a striking example - a private citadel at the heart of the hotel, opening onto a sweeping terrace with views across Rome’s rooftops and the leafy Villa Borghese.

In the lobby, original elements such as Pietro Monti’s bas-relief of Archangel Gabriel remain, now framed by warmer tones and inviting furnishings that soften the transition from the city outside.

The hotel’s famed Secret Garden has also been restored, its 19th-century layout revived with a curated selection of new plantings and dramatic new lighting that reveals its beauty from day to night. As part of the anniversary celebrations, guests can also book an exclusive dining experience for two at the Secret Garden Table - a secluded spot set high among the terraces, where Chef Fulvio Pierangelini presents a seasonal menu in a truly atmospheric setting. At its base, Bar Stravinskij reopens beneath a sculptural pergola inspired by the work of Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti, where signature cocktails by Salvatore Calabrese are served among citrus trees.

It has always been a dream of mine to translate the world of Aquazzura into a hospitality space.

Tucked within the garden’s upper terrace, the Aquazzura Bar was created by designer Edgardo Osorio and Lydia Forte as a tribute to tequila. The bar distils Italian elegance through a couture lens - with hand-painted lemon tiles, bold design, and cocktails crafted from a refined selection of tequilas and mezcals. Light dishes by Chef Fulvio Pierangelini, from grilled octopus to beef tacos, complement the experience.

As Hotel de Russie enters its next 25 years, your clients can experience it reimagined - timeless, tailored, and still rooted in the life of the city.
