In Conversation with Anna Gricini, General Manager of Hotel de la Ville

From Milan to Rome, Anna Gricini has spent more than two decades shaping Italian hospitality. Now appointed General Manager of Hotel de la Ville, the vibrant Roman landmark perched above the Spanish Steps, she brings a calm assurance and a deep understanding of the brand.

Having played a pivotal role in the growth of Rocco Forte Hotels in Italy as Regional Sales and Marketing Director, Anna steps into her new position with insight built over sixteen years with the company. Her career began in Milan with Hilton International, before moving to Starwood Hotels & Resorts and later the Dorchester Collection. Within our company, she has helped define the group’s Italian portfolio, supporting the openings of seven destinations including  Hotel de la Ville itself.

Her appointment also reflects the continued strength of women across the company, from Directors of Design and Finance to Chief Marketing Officer - a network of leaders who share the same purpose and sense of excellence.

We spoke with Anna about her journey, her philosophy on leadership and her excitement for what lies ahead in the Eternal City.

''True hospitality is about emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity - understanding what makes people feel respected, seen and valued''

You’ve spent sixteen years working across some of Italy’s most extraordinary properties. Looking back, what moments stand out as most defining - and what have you learned from those experiences?

I have been fortunate to contribute to many defining chapters. Taking part in the international positioning of properties such as Hotel de la Ville, Villa Igiea and Masseria Torre Maizza has been particularly significant. Each project required vision, teamwork and the ability to bring people together around a shared goal.

I have learned that success is never the result of one action alone - it comes from collective dedication, consistency and a clear sense of purpose. Over time, I have also realised that leadership is not about having all the answers, but about listening, empowering others and creating an environment in which people can grow and express their talent.

Groups and events are a key part of our business. How do you plan to evolve that segment, and what opportunities do you see for strengthening partnerships with M&E bookers and their clients?

Thanks to its unique location, the versatility of its spaces and the professionalism for which we are recognised, my goal is to continue elevating the experience for our events clients - both within the hotel and throughout the destination. We will do so by building cultural and lifestyle partnerships and offering curated programmes that showcase Rome in an inspiring and contemporary way.

Hotel de la Ville is such a special property. What excites you most about leading it into its next chapter and stepping into this new role?

The building has a distinctive character - a blend of Roman heritage, contemporary elegance and a vibrant, international spirit. Leading its next chapter with a renewed focus on creativity, culture and experiential luxury is incredibly exciting.

What inspires me the most is the opportunity to work with a team of passionate professionals. Together, we will continue to make it an even more unique and memorable place for our guests and for our community.

The hospitality industry is changing rapidly - from guest expectations to how we attract and nurture talent. What do you see as the biggest opportunities ahead, both for the hotel and for our teams more broadly?

Luxury is evolving towards meaning, personalisation and emotional connection. Guests increasingly seek authenticity, time and experiences that resonate with them. For us, there is a great opportunity to continue enhancing the guest journey through curated experiences that celebrate Rome’s cultural richness with a contemporary touch.

A key opportunity also lies within our team. Their passion and dedication are reflected in the sincere warmth of their service and in their natural attitude towards welcoming others. This genuine approach makes every guest feel truly seen and special, and it is one of our greatest strengths to continue nurturing.

When it comes to talent, I believe the real opportunity is to foster a human-centred environment - one in which people feel supported, inspired and encouraged to develop their skills and grow.

''The new definition of luxury is crafted authenticity - experiences that are heartfelt, bespoke and reflective of both the guest and the spirit of the destination''

Rome has such energy - what do you love most about life in the city? And outside of work, where can we find you on a day off?

Rome has a unique ability to inspire - every day, a light, a detail, a scent reminds you of its timeless beauty. What I love most is the city’s warmth, spontaneity and the way it stimulates both reflection and curiosity.

On a day off, you will often find me cooking - it is my way of relaxing and expressing creativity - exploring an exhibition, discovering a new corner of the city, or spending time with the people I love.

Anna’s transition into the role of General Manager feels like a natural extension of the strengths she has built over almost two decades with the company. Her commercial background, deep brand insight and appreciation for harmony and detail now inform her leadership of Hotel de la Ville, shaping an atmosphere and elevated guest journey that feels both intuitive and personal.

For travel partners, her appointment offers welcome continuity. Having long been a key point of contact for global clients, Anna brings an inherent understanding of their needs and of the trust required when recommending a stay. Now, as General Manager, she remains a familiar partner — and becomes the person personally welcoming their guests to Rome.

Hotel de la Ville is delighted to welcome Anna Gricini and looks forward to all that lies ahead under her inspiring leadership.
