FIVE THINGS TO DO IN FRANKFURT THIS AUTUMN

With world-class museums, landmark sights and gorgeous gardens, Germany’s financial capital is the perfect destination for an autumnal city break. Great for both families or couples, these fun-fuelled things to do in Frankfurt will inspire and delight in equal measure.

1. WILDERNESS at SCHIRN Gallery

Take a walk on the wild side at SCHIRN Gallery’s major nature-inspired show, WILDERNESS. Uniting 30 artists from the 19th century to today, the exhibition presents paintings, installations and photos that explore the untamed world, with key pieces from Henri Rousseau and Max Ernst.

2. Get a bird’s-eye view atop Main Tower

Nothing beats the exhilarating, panoramic views from Main Tower’s rooftop observation platform. You can rocket to the 56th floor for a knee-trembling view across Frankfurt’s modern skyscrapers and historic cathedrals.

3. Halloween at Frankenstein’s Castle

Where could be more suitable to spend Halloween than at the castle that inspired Mary Shelley’s iconic book? An ideal excursion for families—and just 45 minutes from Frankfurt—Frankenstein’s Castle is a spooky site that promises plenty of excitement with its October Halloween program. Expect grisly horror shows around the castle grounds and a kids’ Halloween party each Sunday.

4. See the changing colours at Palmengarten

Throughout October, Frankfurt’s beautiful botanical wonderland, the Palmengarten showcases the best of the season’s horticultural highlights. The Flowers of Autumn show sees the Palm House transformed into a dreamlike landscape of colourful foliage, grasses and shrubs.

5. Make friends with early humans at Senckenburg Natural History Museum

A treasure trove of early history, the Senckenburg Natural History Museum is filled with things to inspire and entertain. Dinosaur skeletons, amphibians and birds—the whole ancient world is here. Over the autumn months the museum will be hosting the world's most complete fossil human skull from Georgia, which is 1.8 million years old.
