REDISCOVER THE ROMANTIC ROAD

We often dream of exotic adventures in far-flung corners of the world, yet holidays at home can be much more restorative and wonderfully hassle-free. Now is the perfect time to curl up by the fire and plan a romantic getaway, just in time for spring. Dotted with pretty villages, castles and countryside trails, the quiet corners of the Romantic Road make for an easily accessible and refreshing escape. Make your journey memorable with an overnight stay at historic Villa Kennedy in Frankfurt’s leafy Sachsenhausen neighbourhood. Alternatively, celebrate a wonderful end to the trip with an overnight stay in The Charles Hotel’s stylish Royal Monforte Suite, set within Munich’s verdant Lenbachgärten quarter.

Unearth local treasures between Würzburg and Füssen

The historical sites and fairy-tale villages scattered along the route are best explored at your leisure by private car. Begin your trip with a characterful dinner at Gusto, before a restorative night’s stay at Villa Kennedy. The city is a short drive from Würzburg and a wonderful pre-journey pitstop if a rental car is required. Our concierge team will be happy to arrange this for you.

Würzburg is roughly an hour’s drive from Frankfurt and famous for Marienberg Fortress’s spectacular views of the city and the Baroque Residenz Palace, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors should also make time for a scenic walk over Alte Mainbruecke bridge and enjoy a glass of local Riesling from this renowned wine region.

The route continues south past charming Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber. It’s definitely worth staying overnight here to enjoy a full morning’s stroll through the town’s pretty ice-cream hues and cobbled streets, and to see it illuminated at night time. Next, head to the preserved WWII town of Dinkelsbühl for the afternoon and wander through the promenade, before continuing to your evening destination, Nördlingen. Nestled in the remains of a meteor crater, there’s an abundance of castle ruins and gothic cathedrals to explore.

Five days is the perfect amount of time to explore this route, finishing in Füssen with a day trip to the magical 19th-century Neuschwanstein Castle, nestled in the magnificent Bavarian Alps. On completion, celebrate a wonderful trip with a relaxing night at The Charles Hotel, moments from Munich’s historic Königsplatz.

Tracing the Belle Époque from Rome to Palermo

In a time when beauty shaped every facet of life — from the curve of a staircase to the vivid bloom of a painted iris — Italy’s Stile Liberty captured the optimism of a new century. Across Europe in the late 19th century, the Belle Époque blurred the line between art and the everyday, celebrating craftsmanship, elegance, and expressive freedom. Now, a new cultural itinerary, From Mucha to Florio, traces that movement between Hotel de la Ville in Rome and Villa Igiea in Palermo, two different cities, two glorious expressions of the same artistic impulse.
