Beyond Winter Wonderland

When frost is in the air, and glowing lights sweep over the city’s streets and shopping arcades, London is at its best. In Mayfair and nearby neighbourhoods, carols fill grand concert halls and candlelit chapels, fir trees stand tall in the city’s grandest squares, and ice rinks recall the joy of simple pleasures.

Brown’s joins the celebrations with seasonal menus, warming fires and enchanting decorations greeting visitors, welcomed within by smartly top-hatted doormen. Read on to discover five ways to make the most of the capital at its most festive.

Carols at the Royal Albert Hall

19th–24th December

The first notes of a Christmas carol have a way of reigniting the excitement. For those staying at Brown’s, a two-night stay centres on morning, matinee or evening concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. After a relaxing breakfast, included in the stay, it’s off to South Kensington for a VIP experience at the Hall’s celebrated carol concerts, arriving by horse-drawn carriage through Hyde Park.

Across London, choral music fills some of its most historic sacred spaces throughout December. The soaring interiors of Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral and St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle provide magnificent settings for seasonal music, bringing angelic voices, architecture and centuries of tradition together.

The Royal Albert Hall VIP Experience is available to those staying at Brown’s Hotel, subject to a minimum stay and additional cost.

‘Nutcracker’ at the London Coliseum

17th December 2026–10th January 2027

Snow falls, toys spring to life and Christmas Eve slips into another world in English National Ballet’s ‘Nutcracker’. More than 100 dancers and musicians bring Clara’s adventure from Edwardian London to a glittering ice realm and the Land of Sweets & Delights. Tchaikovsky’s uplifting score, played live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic, includes the delightful Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

From Brown’s, the evening is made all the more special with a VIP experience, beginning with Champagne or a pre-performance dinner before the curtain rises. The production continues into the new year, making it as fitting for the days after Christmas as those before it.

VIP arrangements are available to those staying at Brown’s Hotel at an additional cost.

Festive Lights and Art with Maeve Doyle

13th November 2026 to 3rd January 2027

As dusk settles over Mayfair, curator Maeve Doyle leads guests through a neighbourhood transformed by art and light. Join the guided walk as it threads between galleries and artistic corners. See Bond Street with its special illuminations overhead, Regent Street beneath angelic-looking figures with their wings outspread, and seasonal installations appearing on Mount Street and Berkeley Square.

A beautiful and bucolic scene awaits in west London – Christmas at Kew reveals an outdoor light trail after dark among historic glasshouses and monumental trees. The Royal Botanic Gardens become an illuminated landscape of larger-than-life installations, tunnels of colour and immersive sound installations. Among all of London’s Christmas Lights, Mayfair’s intimate streets and Kew’s vast botanical setting are two of the most magical.

The Festive Lights and Art Tour with Maeve Doyle is available to those staying at Brown’s Hotel at an additional cost.

Festive Afternoon Tea at Brown’s Hotel

Daily throughout November and December

Between a morning of shopping and an evening performance, The Drawing Room is just the place for a relaxing fireside pause. This season, while enjoying Afternoon Tea at Brown’s, perhaps in the very chair where Agatha Christie used to sit, fans can follow tea with 'Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery' at the British Library. Within this landmark exhibition, 50 years after her death, are family photographs, notebooks and a display that includes a Orient Express-inspired train carriage.

At Christmas, the familiar pleasures of Afternoon Tea are emboldened with new flavours. Settle into an armchair for tiers of delicate sandwiches, freshly baked scones and intricate pastries, accompanied by tea and, for a little extra sparkle, a glass of Champagne. While the world outside continues at full pace, inside, the crackle of the fire and the choreographed arrival of each course make an afternoon here a destination in itself.

Festive Afternoon Tea in The Drawing Room is open to all | 'Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery' is at the British Library from 30th October 2026 until 20th June 2027

Ice Skating at various venues across London

11th November 2026 to 10th January 2027

Few winter pursuits have such an evocative setting, pairing ice skating with some of London’s finest architecture. At Somerset House – possibly the most beautiful example – skaters sweep around the grand neoclassical courtyard beneath its Christmas tree, with evening DJ sessions adding music beneath the winter sky.

There are rinks to discover across the capital, each with its own setting. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland brings skating to the heart of London’s largest Christmas fair, while Battersea Power Station pairs the ice with its monumental riverside architecture. Further east, Greenwich offers the Queen’s House as a backdrop, and beyond central London, Hampton Court Palace brings skating within sight of regal Tudor towers and courtyards. Historic palaces and contemporary landmarks transform a turn around the ice into a wonderfully atmospheric way to see London in winter.

Allow our Concierge to guide you to these and more of London’s festive highlights, from its grandest traditions to the seasonal moments worth seeking out.
