Hotel de Rome Successfully Gains Sustainability Award

The Hotel de Rome’s passionate commitment to sustainability, together with contemporary luxury, has now been officially recognised: the Rocco Forte Hotel in Berlin has been positively assessed by the German Institute for Sustainability & Economics and has received the “Sustainability Certification 2022” seal of approval. The certificate is internationally recognised proof of demonstrable sustainability.

As part of the certification process, comprehensive audits were carried out in the areas of ecology, economy and social responsibility (product, service and consulting quality, economic future orientation and corporate management, as well as ecological and social responsibility).

"I am very pleased that our hotel and our whole team have had their commitment to sustainability recognised with this certification. Sustainability and luxury accommodation do not have to be mutually exclusive - quite the opposite: contemporary luxury and a conscious use of resources in a high-quality environment are becoming increasingly important in order to keep up with the times," says Gordon Debus, General Manager of the Hotel de Rome.

The topic of sustainability is firmly anchored in the hotel's internal communications as a continuous process of evolution. A dedicated Green Team, consisting of employees and trainees from the various departments, meets regularly to discuss sustainable projects, implement ideas and integrate them into the hotel concept. This includes topics such as correct waste separation, the purchase of regional products and having a veggie day in the employee restaurant. In a monthly newsletter, the Green Team informs all of the hotel’s employees about the successes achieved and the initiatives currently in progress.

From an ecological point of view, Hotel de Rome focuses on regionality and sources the majority of its seasonal food from partners and producers in the surrounding area. Guests enjoy bread and cakes produced at the hotel itself.

In addition, the hotel also sets an example in terms of social commitment: the Haus am Bebelplatz supports urban beekeeping in Berlin as a way of counteracting increasing insect mortality. For just €3.00, guests can purchase hotel-branded wristbands made from recycled plastic. 100% of the proceeds go to the Berlin city beekeepers.

In order to offer its guests sustainable customer experiences and service of the very highest quality, Hotel de Rome is collaborating with the Swedish car manufacturer Polestar. As well as low-emission transfers in high-quality vehicles, guests can also enjoy exclusive test drives.
