Verdura Resort: A blueprint for modern wellbeing-led events

As meetings and incentive programmes continue to evolve beyond packed agendas and transactional networking, there is growing recognition that the most memorable events are often those that allow people space to slow down, connect and experience a destination more meaningfully.

At Verdura Resort, those principles are woven naturally into the guest experience.

Set across 230 hectares of olive groves, coastline and open countryside on Sicily’s southwest coast, the resort offers planners a blueprint for modern wellbeing-led events, where the landscape, pace of life and sense of space become part of the programme itself.

Walking routes, expansive open space and uninterrupted sea views create an environment that feels fundamentally different from more traditional conference settings, allowing groups to move more fluidly between work, wellbeing and social connection.

“Longevity is not just about diet or exercise; it’s about belonging, the idea of ‘family’ clearly extends far beyond the Forte name.”

Rather than keeping attendees in a single environment throughout a programme, Verdura’s approach is built around variety and movement. Experiences flow across meeting rooms and terraces, olive groves, restaurants and outdoor spaces, creating a natural shift in pace and atmosphere throughout the day.

As General Manager Giulio Polegato explained, the resort’s scale and flexibility allow groups to create highly personalised programmes, with enough variety that “we never propose the same venue twice within an event.”

“We want guests to experience different places and different atmospheres throughout their stay,” he said. “You can create your own personalised journey.”

Wellbeing at Verdura is also closely tied to the surrounding landscape and local culture. The resort produces much of its own olive oil, citrus fruit and vegetables onsite, with ingredients used throughout the restaurants and culinary experiences.

“We have 2,500 olive trees here at the resort and nearly 2,200 orange and lemon plants,” Polegato explained. “Everything is connected to nutrition, longevity and the farm-to-table food philosophy we are building here.”

Cooking classes invite guests to pick ingredients directly from the vegetable gardens before preparing traditional Sicilian dishes, while activities available include horse riding, hiking, golf, e-bikes and water sports, and of course the impressive 4,000-square-metre Irene Forte Spa offering space for rest and restoration.

Verdura’s proximity to the hilltop town of Caltabellotta, recently identified as an emerging Blue Zone, has also helped bring greater attention to themes of longevity, nutrition, movement and living well, while creating strong opportunities for event theming.

That was something the recent Rocco Forte Hotels M&E Showcase at Verdura demonstrated particularly effectively.

For attendee Stevie Simpson, Global Director of Events & Travel at Input Output Group, what stood out most was how naturally the themes of wellness, longevity and connection were integrated throughout the programme.

“Everything centred around wellness - and importantly, it made sense,” she reflected afterwards. “Set alongside the neighbouring Caltabellotta, a Blue Zone, it wasn’t a theme for the sake of it. It was tangible, consistent and considered. A strong reminder that when messaging, content and experience all ladder up to one clear idea, it elevates everything.”

For Heidi Williams, Head of Growth and Client Success at The Good Travel Collective, what made the experience particularly powerful was how naturally those principles translated into the wider hospitality environment itself.

“At Verdura, these principles didn’t feel like abstract concepts or research findings, they felt lived - thoughtfully translated into a luxury hospitality experience,” she said.

Williams also reflected on the importance of belonging and human connection within modern wellbeing, something she felt was embedded throughout the resort experience.

“Longevity is not just about diet or exercise; it’s about belonging,” she said. “The idea of ‘family’ clearly extends far beyond the Forte name.”

As companies continue to navigate hybrid working, digital fatigue and increasing pressure on employee wellbeing, environments like Verdura feel increasingly aligned with where meetings and events may be heading next.

Here, wellbeing is not treated as a standalone activity or event theme but woven naturally into the rhythm of the guest experience itself.
