If you’re planning a romantic holiday in Europe, let these ideas thrill and inspire you. Make life-long memories on your honeymoon by sharing a new experience with your partner, from helicopter tours to driving through idyllic countryside in a vintage vehicle, we handpicked activities for every type of couple.

Best for... thrill-seekers
Villa Igiea, Palermo

Recapture the butterflies of your first date with a helicopter tour over the Italian island of Sicily. Stay at Villa Igiea in Palermo, on the north coast, and strap yourselves into an exhilarating ride for a bird’s eye view of the Sicilian coast. As your pilot loops the sky you can gawp at fifth century temples in Agrigento and the unique rock formations of the UNESCO-listed Aeolian archipelago. But nothing is more thrilling than peering into the craters of Stromboli, an active volcano surrounded by black lava beaches, or hovering over the summit of Mount Etna – Europe’s tallest active volcano.

Best for... romantics
Hotel Savoy, Florence

What could be more romantic than driving through the Italian countryside as newly weds? Hotel Savoy in Florence has partnered with Slow Drive to allow you to hop in a retro Fiat 500, classic Triumph TR3 or vintage Lancia Flavia convertible. Feel the wind in your hair and hear the roar of the engine as you wind past picturesque vineyards, meadows of cypress and lemon trees and down country lanes lined with wildflowers. Stop whenever you please to take photos of farmers attending olive groves or to wave ciao to locals in a village square.

Best for… laidback lovers
The Balmoral, Edinburgh

If there’s ever a time to stop and smell the roses, your honeymoon is it. Relax in a scent masterclass in the Bowes Lyon suite at The Balmoral in Edinburgh, Scotland. Imogen Russon-Taylor, Kingdom Scotland’s founder, will talk you through fragrances: Metamorphoric smells of rose and is inspired by rocks made dense by heat; Albaura is a unisex poppy and cedarwood scent inspired by the Scottish botanist Isobel Wylie Hutchison; Portal is woody in a nod to Caledonia’s pine forests while Kingdom Botanica is a collaboration with Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, with blackcurrant notes. Sip Secret Garden Distillery’s Baile Mhoireil gin while you choose which fragrance to take home. The scent will linger long after you’ve unpacked.

Best for... Romantic rejuvenation
Hotel Savoy, Florence

Hotel Savoy is delighted to partner with Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella to launch an exquisite new Spa Suite. The Spa Suite has been created as part of the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica, founded by Dominican friars in 1221, the year of their arrival in Florence. They used medicinal herbs grown in the monastic gardens to make medications, balms and pomades for the monks' infirmary. This was the beginning of the long history of the Pharmacy, which is deeply linked to the cultural, scientific and philosophical advances of Florence in the 13th century. Located on the 5th floor of the hotel and spread across two floors, the suite offers breathtaking views over the city, the Spa offers a “wellness retreat” where guests can relax and indulge in treatments using the world-famous products of the celebrated centuries-old Pharmacy. As a guest of Hotel Savoy, you will also have access to the Officina's private tour: a visit to the historical home of the Officina in Via della Scala, in the heart of the pharmacy’s production premises.
