MAKING VAN GOGH:EXPERIENCE A GERMAN LOVE STORY

Vincent Van Gogh’s dramatic brushwork is instantly recognisable: his expressive landscapes, still lifes and portraits are the highlights of the world’s greatest art collections—yet so coveted are they around the world that they are rarely seen together.

Discover over 50 of his drawings and paintings side-by-side at the once-in-a-decade exhibition ‘Making Van Gogh’, on display at Frankfurt’s Städel Museum until the 16th February 2020. Years in the making, this incredible showcase contains works on loan from New York’s

Metropolitan Museum of Art, Prague’s National Gallery, Chicago’s Art Institute and more.

For an immersive artistic experience, reserve our ‘Van Gogh’ package and check into an elegant room or suite in our neo-Gothic villa, where you’ll receive a VIP welcome. Next, see our Concierge and collect tickets to the Städel Museum, included in your stay. Should you wish to enjoy a guided tour, we will be happy to arrange this.

When you’re ready to visit the exhibition, it’s but a mere ten-minute stroll to the museum from Villa Kennedy’s doors. ‘Making Van Gogh’ places Van Gogh’s oeuvre in the context of its reception in Germany, where the artist’s unique style had a formative influence on the Expressionist movement.  In addition to admiring the masterpieces on display, you’ll discover how German galleries, collectors, critics and museums helped cement his reputation. Alongside an unprecedented curation of Van Gogh’s works, an additional 70 paintings from the Städel’s own Expressionist collection will be on display, elucidating the influence he had on German masters including Schmidt-Rottluff, Modersohn-Becker and Beckmann.

Once you’re finished, you may wish to couple this experience with a visit to Frankfurt’s other museums, located close by in the Museumsufer, or Museum District, set along the River Main. Upon your return to Villa Kennedy, take the time to reminisce over your incredible experience in our Villa Spa, with inclusive entry. Set across four floors and including the tranquil Villa Garden, here you’ll enjoy a leisurely submersion in our whirlpool, steam room or Finnish sauna. Finish with a refreshing night’s sleep and breakfast in the morning.

When Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen, working closely with Olga Polizzi, began designing the resort's new collection of sea-facing suites and rooms, that relationship between interior and place was where they started.
