The brains behind one of Germany’s leading fashion blogs, Palina Kozyrava is an authority on the latest trends and best places to shop. Here, she shares her guide to Frankfurt’s most fashionable addresses.
What do you think makes German style distinct?
“German style has historically been very classy and rather conservative. What matters most for the German customer is quality and sustainability.”
Who are your favourite German designers, both established and up-and-coming?
“To be honest, German designers have been very quiet for a long time now. If I had to name one, I think it would be Talbot Runhof, and Lutz Huelle as an up-and-coming label to watch. Talbot Runhof is a designer duo that has established its own, rather clean and clear style. Lutz Huelle worked in the past for amazing fashion houses like Maison Martin Margiela, and his own label reflects this experience.”
Where do you like to shop in Frankfurt?
“I love to shop at the Goethestraße. You have all the luxury stores you could possibly wish for on this street, and I just love to walk around and soak up the atmosphere. I particularly love Coco and Aschenputtel, two great vintage boutiques that often have a few real treasures.”
How would you spend a perfect day in Frankfurt?
“I’d start the day with breakfast on the beautiful terrace at Villa Kennedy, and then I’d do a little shopping on the Goethestraß. Afterwards, I’d spend some time at the Villa Spa before enjoying drinks at JFK Bar. I’d end the day by enjoying dinner at Gusto with some friends.”
You travel a lot, what fashion essentials do you always pack in your suitcase?
“The only fashion item I really need to have with me is comfortable sweatpants. As I have to dress up for my job most of the time, having super comfortable clothes than I can change into as soon as I get back to my hotel room is the number one priority.”
Who is your ultimate style icon?
“Either Carla Bruni or Kate Moss. Regardless of what they wear or what they do, I really think they are blessed with natural style!”
What was your most recent fashion purchase?
“A pair of super high heels from my favourite designer, Vetements. Not at all practical but seriously fabulous.”

Sicily is “the key to everything”, or so wrote Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in his works, Italian Journey. Throughout history, the largest island in the Mediterranean has captivated travellers as a land of myth, natural beauty and ancient memory. Shaped by Greek colonies, Emirates of Crete, Roman Provinces, Norman Kingdoms and Spanish rule, Sicily holds the imprint of civilisations past. Woven into its landscapes, their presence remains with its buildings, ruins and along the pretty coastal paths that follow its shores.
Vivacious, glamorous, powerful. Few figures encapsulate the effortless grandeur of the Belle Époque quite like Donna Franca, our Sicilian muse. Famed for her petite frame, thick dark hair and an exquisite fashion sense that has endured for over a century, Franca was the epitome of an era that placed beauty and high fashion at its forefront.
