Excursion To Tantallon Castle Framed By Breathtaking Views Of The East Lothian Coast

Rocco Forte Hotels has proudly partnered with The Polizzi Collection to create a joint itinerary, celebrating the many advantages of visiting the Great British coastline. With a flexible starting point and two nights recommended at each hotel, the tour invites guests to experience both Rocco Forte Hotels UK properties, The Balmoral in Edinburgh and Brown’s Hotel in London, and two of The Polizzi Collection Hotels, Hotel Endsleigh in Devon and Hotel Tresanton in Cornwall.

Moving between the historic cities of Edinburgh and London to the picturesque countryside of England’s South West coast, the new itinerary includes cultural excursions, coastal walks, boat trips, ocean-inspired spa treatments and seasonal seaside picnics. Whether looking to learn more about the many faces of Great Britain or perhaps find inspiration in the maritime designs of Olga Polizzi (Director of Design at Rocco Forte Hotels and owner of The Polizzi Collection), the Coast to Coast experience is a slow travel adventure without bounds.

At The Balmoral in Edinburgh, guests arriving by train will be greeted at the station by the concierge team, and escorted back to the landmark hotel at No 1 Princes Street. A two-night stay is recommended to make the most of the Scottish coast, starting with dinner at 4 AA Rosette Number One restaurant. The restaurant showcases the best of Scottish seafood, serving Shetland Salmon and Hand-dived Orkney scallops. An enchanting whisky tasting called ‘A Journey Around Scotland’ is included at The Balmoral’s award-winning whisky bar SCOTCH, with the opportunity to sample drams from distilleries across Scotland (Highlands, Lowlands, Islands, Islay and Speyside).

Guests will be escorted on a day trip to explore one of Scotland’s most picturesque coastal areas, East Lothian, for an education and immersion in the country's history. The excursion includes a visit to Tantallon Castle, Dukes Fine Art Gallery and to the breathtaking Yellowcraig Beach, framed by beautiful views of the East Lothian coast. The accompanying indulgent picnic, which can be enjoyed on the beach, includes a selection of sandwiches such as the Classic Balmoral with smoked salmon and crème fraîche on sourdough bread, along with fruits, crisps and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

A train from Edinburgh to London takes guests into the heart of London and the vibrant streets of sophisticated Mayfair. A two-night stay at Brown’s Hotel is next on the agenda, promising the best of British culture and a taste of what the effervescent city has to offer. Upon arrival, the hotel suggests the Sicilian Earth & Sea Toning Treatment for two in The Spa. During their stay, guests can delight in a three-course meal for two at Charlie's restaurant. The menu features wild scallops harvested by freedivers in the UK, responsibly sourced fish and shellfish from the British coastline, such as baked Cornish plaice with brown shrimps and coastal herbs, Dorset crab salad with spring remoulade, and grilled Dover sole. Guests can sign up to a perfumery experience with Ormonde Jayne or embark on an art walk through Mayfair, beginning and ending at Brown's Hotel with critic and artistic director of Maddox Gallery Maeve Doyle. Also included is an Irene Forte Skincare Travel Set, Brown's Hotel: A Family Affair Book, embroidered pillowcases and slippers.

Feeling rested, a car service will deliver guests to Hotel Endsleigh in Devon, to be greeted by 100 acres of fairy tale gardens, woodlands and luscious green countryside. Leaving the vibrant city of London, revel in the charming tranquillity of Dartmoor. Lunch and dinner is included as well as a guided walk around the gardens with Head Gardener, Ben Ruscombe-King. A time for leisure, the team invites guests to take afternoon tea and enjoy freshly baked scones with Cornish clotted cream overlooking the peaceful River Tamar.

A transfer is provided to/from Hotel Tresanton, a former yacht club set in the Cornish village of St Mawes. Set just above the shoreline, dinner is enjoyed to the backdrop of a pink sunset and crashing waves. During the recommended two night stay, guests can take a ferry trip from St Mawes to Place Creek, followed by a walk to The Hidden Hut for lunch overlooking Porthcurnick Beach, enjoy sundowners overlooking St Anthony’s Lighthouse and take the Coastal walk from St Mawes to St Just in Roseland Church with picnic provided. In season, and weather permitting, guests will have the option to book a boat trip on Pinuccia, the hotel’s magnificent 8 metre classic yacht, built in 1938 to race for Italy. Both Hotel Endsleigh and Tresanton were founded by Rocco Forte Hotel’s Director of Design Lady Olga Polizzi. A regular visitor to both properties,  guests whose visits coincide with Lady Olga’s will have the chance to meet her and hear firsthand the story of each hotel's fruition.

A rare opportunity to move between Britain’s many diverse landscapes at a leisurely pace, the Coast to Coast itinerary touches on design, history and cultural immersion through curated activities and cuisine. Designed by the experts, including Olga Polizzi herself, the flexible year-round experience is for any slow travellers with a penchant for adventure, love of Great Britain and a hunger for the sea
