Our concierge team’s top five:

Local artistry at Studio d’Arte Rizzuti

Located in the hilltop town of Caltabellotta, Studio d’Arte Rizzuti is a wonderful gallery featuring the sculptures and artwork of Salvatore Rizzuti, a professor of art in Palermo. His gallery is a beautiful space to explore, with a collection of evocative sculptures that reflect his deep connection to the island’s traditions and landscape.

Ancient Sicilian ruins

Relics of Ancient Civilization

Situated beside the Valley of the Temples, the Regional Archaeological Museum is a fascinating collection of artefacts from Sicily’s Greek and Roman heritage. From delicate vases to ancient sculptures and everyday objects, the exhibits offer an intimate glimpse into the daily life of the island’s storied history.

The Enchanted Castle

Halfway between Verdura Resort and Sciacca lies an unconventional open-air museum created by a solitary local artist, Filippo Bentivegna. Despite its name, it’s not a castle but rather a surreal collection of thousands of faces carved into stone and wood. These sculptures, believed to embody people he encountered or imagined, offer a deeply intriguing experience that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.

The Temple at the Valley of the Temple in Sicily

Sunrise Stories at the Temple

During summer time one of the most captivating experiences on the island is visiting the Valley of the Temples early in the morning, around 5 or 6 a.m. Beneath the majestic Concordia Temple - one of the best-preserved in the valley - performers in traditional attire bring a Greek tragedy to life. The combination of ancient ruins and the soft glow of dawn creates a truly magical atmosphere. Guests can also enjoy a private tour of the site before it opens to the public, followed by a breakfast of traditional Sicilian delights.

Apollo e Daphne, a lyrical staging of Handel’s early cantata at Teatro Massimo of Palermo

Palermo's charm

For a vibrant blend of art, culture, and history, head to Palermo on the island’s northwestern coast, where you’ll find lively city markets and Teatro Massimo, the largest opera house in Italy. Famed for its stunning interiors, brilliant acoustics and captivating performances, it makes for wonderful evening entertainment. The food markets are also a must. Wandering through the bustling stalls is like stepping into a living museum, where the aromas, colours, and sounds create an immersive experience of Sicilian life.

Scopello's beauty in Sicily

A day by the sea in Scopello

You might recognise the seaside town of Scopello from the Hollywood movie Ocean’s Twelve - it’s where those giant rock formations rise out of the sea.  Known for its fresh tuna, this charming coastal spot is a delight to explore. Wander through its narrow alleys, where you’ll find quaint bars serving granita - a true Sicilian classic. There’s nothing better than a day at the beach followed by pani cunzatu - wood-fired, homemade bread topped with olive oil, salt, and fresh tomatoes. It’s simple, but absolutely delicious.
