Hill Climb - Erice and Saline

Explore Erice, the picturesque medieval hill town that was immortalised in Virgil’s epic poem, the Aeneid. Surrounded by steep, defensive walls and crowned by the Castello di Venere, it offers breath-taking panoramas over the Tyrrhenian coastline all the way to the tip of San Vito lo Capo. Then breeze down towards the shore to visit the salt pans of Trapani. This nature reserve’s salt pools are still used in the production and crystallisation of Sicilian salt—linger on for sunset when their pink tinge is at its rosiest.

A bijou town in the province of Palermo, Corleone is rich in monuments and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Ascend to the top of Castello Soprano to explore the historic remains of a Saracen castle, and enjoy its particularly special panoramas. From there, pass through Burgio, a charming Sicilian village that’s steeped in history and is home to the island’s only bell foundry, established in the 1500s. Venture as far as the stunning hilltop village of Chiusa Sclafani, whose many magnificent churches are a memorable backdrop to your drive.

Hill Climb - Monte Pellegrino

Just over 600 metres above the bay of Palermo, Monte Pellegrino is home to the Monte Pellegrino Hill Climb circuit, where the first uphill car race took place in 1908 and one of the most iconic motorsports locations in the world. Drive on to discover the Sicilian capital itself, stopping off to explore the enchanting cave chapel dedicated to St. Rosalia, with spectacular views over the beach of Mondello on one side and Palermo on the other.

Monreale

Built by the Normans in the 11th century, the city of Monreale is located on a natural terrace between the Conca d’Oro and Oreto Valley, which makes for a truly scenic drive. Surrounded by olive, almond and orange trees, this pretty village is blessed with one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in Sicily, in the form of its cathedral, built by William II and now a designated World Heritage Site. Park up to explore on foot, then cool down with a gelato as you admire the views.
